Problem Statement
Research
Quick sign-in through Google/Facebook are just a couple of the other sign-in/sign-up options around instead of the traditional flows.
Companies such as Reddit, Twitter, Canva, Instagram, Google and TikTok are already using these quick sign-in flows. Twitter has been a top app for several years. Instagram and TikTok are the top social media apps for millennials and are also the preference for Gen Z. Given that these companies are as successful as they are, it seems they are the ones to follow.
Most phone operating systems also have a touch/face ID built in for easy login after a passkey has been saved for that app. As technology has advanced, password and keychain storage that shares between devices has become more common, allowing for easier logins to your accounts.
We did research into the sign-up flows for several companies as well as an anonymous survey to determine the pain points in common user account creation flows.
The anonymous survey sent out via social media platforms fetched 60 submissions. We were able to get a broad array of ages and occupations/technical levels which gave us a good view of the general public. We found that people really hate signing up for things if the process asks for too much information or is too long.
The User
Through our survey, we started to get a lot of ideas about who our user really is, which helped us make our persona as realistic as we could get it. Utilizing all parts of our research just word-vomited into Figjam really helped give us ideas as to what our user really wants.
User Flow & Wireframes
To narrow down our ideations, we looked at what the most popular social media apps use in their sign-up screens and what our users want/like and pulled the similarities together to create the basis of our app sign-up.
